Administration

Goole is a municipal borough with an estimated population of 18,830 (mid 1961) and an area of 1,267 acres. It is governed by a council consisting of six aldermen and eighteen councillors. The Municipal Offices are in Stanhope Street and accommodate all the departments of the Corporation.

Bus Services

Lincolnshire Road Car Company Ltd. run daily services between Goole and Scunthorpe, Goole and Howden, Goole and Ousefleet, and Goole and Swinefleet. This Company also runs a Town Service, and a Service between Goole and the neighbouring village of Hook. The Blue Line and Reliance Motors run a joint daily service between Goole and Doncaster.

The West Riding Automobile Co. Ltd. run a daily service between Goole and Leeds via Pontefract, a daily service between Goole and Leeds via Selby, and also a Saturday only service between Goole and Pollington. East Yorkshire Motor Services run daily services between Goole and Hull, and between Goole and Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough. The 'Advance' Motor Service runs daily services between Goole and Scunthorpe and between Goole and Gainsborough. The 'Ben' Green Bus Service runs daily services between Goole and Crowle and between Goole and Swinefleet. The Imperial Bus Service runs a Wednesday and Saturday only service between Goole and Barmby via Howden.

Anyone used to go to parish youth club in the 1960's? Eg david heseltine, Martin crapper, Janice rocket, Susan abson, Jennie bran ham, Joan Sunderland ,Pete butte rick, Dave Clarke , Bernard roffey.(who I was married to for. While)

Yup,I was there. Was good, but not good enough to prevent us popping across to the Sydney for some underage drinking.
Before that there was the scouts (3rd Goole Troop) and briefly the Church Lads' Brigade. Anybody remember those?

I remember the Church Lads Brigade held in the Parish Church school rooms in the 1950s . As I recall Tom Wilburn was the C.O. and Mr Rossiter the church caretaker also helped.The GFS was also held in the same buiding.

Alderman JT Gunnill was my grandfather, Gordon Gunnill his eldest son was my father.Dad started work in the shipyard, grandad was a bricklayer, shop steward and labour candidate in the 60's. Him and Grandma became Mayor and Mayoress of Goole in the 60's. Grandma was Ana Ask with a brother Herbert who married Violet ? Does anyone know anything about the Asks?
